BRUNO GRECO
The colors, the substance, the relief, the metaphors, the allegories, Bruno Greco’s universe takes us into a paradoxical world, the reflection of a cruel and dark reality and also the emergence of a world where the instinct of survival has the upper hand on doubtfulness, his doubts…
The work of an artist is influenced by encounters and events, but also by the power and the depth of his statement that exists within him. Bruno Greco’s abstract in punctuated by the beauty of the animal world and human cruelty; a gentle mix of Voltaire and Primo Levi, that takes us naturally towards the compulsive questioning on the outcome of humanity. War, arms, angels, and life… We catch ourselves trying to find our founding fathers. The hint exists but remains subtle, Basquiat, Dubuffet… The concept is modern and serious and plunges into a rich universe snap shot of our time.
The artist does not insist on morals or accusations, he is only questioning himself. He is at the same time a hostage of his own weakness, humanity’s weakness and man’s capacity for violent behavior. We notice traces of Kafka, traces that allow us to jubilate whilst reading his paint work. The humility of his character is illustrated in the titles he uses, flirting and inspired by “nuits et brouillards” and “la peau et les os”, and remain constantly faithful to his poetic ideas, lucid but poetic. We don’t sense the lyricism common to the artists of his time, the tone is appropriate, with the subtitles and wording that allow us to delve into derision because of the omnipresence of men’s dramas… Leo Férré also followed that path, was he right… With time… everything goes…
